Here, for those interested, is the signal chain with which the rhythm guitars were recorded at Ithil World Studio in Imperia last week. Here’s the complete signal chain: My legendary Ibanez Prestige RGT 3020 MESA DUAL RECTIFIER head MESA RECTO STANDARD 4x12 cabinet Expertly mic’d with three microphones:- U47Fet i (NEUMANN) Shure SM57 MD 421 II (SENNHEISER) all through:- 3 Solid State Logic “super analogue” Pre Solid State Logic SL4000G+ “black eq” Mixer (This is history!! this mixer produced 3/4 of the world’s hit singles, and albums like Metallica’s “Black album” or Dream Theater’s “Awake” just to name 2) Empirical Labs EL-8 DISTRESSOR (Queensrÿche, Mr. Big, Joe Satriani, Metallica, Megadeth, Aerosmith) Finally passing through the Prism ADA 8XR “dream” converters and into Protools!!! Karnak Studio Diary pt III

Rhythm guitars are also finished! We worked all day without stopping and at the dawn of 6 PM we reached the end! The legendary Ibanez RGT3020 once again proved to be an extraordinary guitar. Not that I needed confirmation!! Giovanni Nebbia (the sound engineer) was incredibly patient with my perfectionism and made today’s recordings a breeze! Karnak Studio Diary pt II

Let’s begin with the guitars! Today we created alchemy with the sound of Mesa Dual Rectifier and Mesa Recto Cab 4x12. Plus I recorded the rhythms for two tracks, tomorrow we start again! The head (with us in the control room) is connected to the cabinet located in the live room, mic’d with three microphones. Tomorrow some more info on the signal chain! Karnak Studio Diary pt I

Today the drum parts were completed by Maurizio De Palo! The sounds are truly massive and he went at it for two full days without rest! Great job Mauri. Here’s a photo of his massive drum set, expertly mic’d by Giovanni Nebbia.

Karnak in the Studio!

Next week Karnak will begin recording their EP containing six tracks! We’re working frantically so that everything is perfect!! Regarding the recording studio…we couldn’t have chosen better: Ithil World in Imperia. I’ve already recorded at those studios with the Mauro Vero Band and had a wonderful experience!
